SA - June Dinner

Join us at the Lion Hotel in Adelaide as we are back this year with our Annual June Dinner event!

 

We are back this year with our wonderful networking event hosted at the Lion Hotel in North Adelaide. This years event will have specialist periodontist Dr Paul McHugh  joining us to present. 

Dr McHugh will be coming a few key topics including: 

  • When is it time to refer to a Periodontist.
  • How you, as an operator can explain what it is they do and the importance of continued shared care of a patient. 
  • He will also provide an update on guided bio-film, how he utilises EMS Airflow in periodontal practice and periodontal issues. 

 

We will also have Sue Aldenhoven presenting to us on the past 30yrs of DHAA. So come and join us!

Speaker Biographies:

Dr Paul McHugh

BDS (Adel), BScDent (Hons), MDS (Adel), FICD, FPFA

Dr Paul McHugh graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1980. Initially he worked in the RAAF as a serving Dentist, before becoming the senior lecturer to the dental hygienist course and then commencing private practice. He returned to Adelaide University and became a registered periodontist in 1991. In specialist private practice in Adelaide he started Adelaide Periodontics and Implant Professionals. Paul’s clinical and scientific interests are in the field of periodontal tissue regeneration, bone grafting and dental implants.

Paul has been actively involved with undergraduate and postgraduate training for dentists and dental hygienists, and is a speaker for the ITI. He has served as chairman of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP), and Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP state and federal). Paul has received fellowships from the International Team of Implantology, The Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentistry.

Paul is married with two adult children. Away from the practice he and his wife Fatima are supporters of the Visual arts having been involved with the Hellmann Academy, and now the Jam Factory and are members of the Art Gallery of SA. They enjoy playing tennis and wine and dining with friends.

Sue Aldenhoven AM

Sue Aldenhoven gained her dental hygiene qualification in Adelaide, South Australia. Since that time she has worked in general and specialist dental practices in the private and government sectors as well as an educator at TAFESA in the School of Dental Hygiene, Gilles Plains Campus and is currently an academic at the University of Adelaide, Adelaide Dental School, where she holds the position of Lecturer and teaches into the Bachelor of Oral Health. Sue has also taught into BDS3 general dental practice, pre-clinical and clinical programs, in the role of periodontal support.

Sue is a Past President and Life Member of the Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia (SA Branch) Inc., Founding President and Life Member of the Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia Ltd, Past President and Life Member of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists, past member of the Dental Board of South Australia and Professional Conduct Tribunal and an Inaugural Member and Past Member of the Dental Board of Australia (DBA) appointed in 2009.

Sue was Chair of the Australian Dental Council (ADC) Registration Examinations for Overseas Trained Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists Committee, member of the DBA South Australian Regional Board & Registration and Notifications Committee, member of the DBA Registration and Notifications Committee, Chair of the DBA Recency of Practice/Return to Practice Committee, member of the ADC/DBA Overseas Trained Practitioners working group and a member of the DBA Return to Practice Advisory Committee and Scope of Practice Review Working Group. She has spoken widely at state and national conferences on the “Introduction of a Dental Hygienist into the Dental Practice Team” and was a keynote speaker at the 1995 ANZAP Inaugural Meeting on “The Challenges of Dental Hygiene in Australasia”. Sue presented a paper at the IADR meeting in San Diego on “CPD in Australia, under the National Law”.

Sue was awarded an AM, Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in January 2009, “For service to dental hygiene as a clinician and educator and through executive roles with professional organisations at state, national and international levels.

You can still attend our events by creating a purchase account at the link above. This will be a non-member account where you can register for events and track your event registrations. It does not allow you access to member benefits or the members portal, these are only accessible by joining as a DHAA member.

  • DHAA Event Regulations

    • DHAA Members - To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event.

      Student Members - Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event Student Membership expires June 30th following your graduation. Student Membership to the DHAA Ltd is Free.

      ADOHTA Members - All ADOHTA members are required to show proof of membership to ADOHTA. You are required to be a current member at the time of the event to either DHAA Ltd or ADOHTA inc. To access the discounted price please create an account and email proof of current membership to [email protected]. We will update your account to display the correct registration price for the duration of the membership period displayed in your proof of membership.

      Dietary Requirements - We will attempt to accommodate all dietary requirements. Please ensure you specify any dietary restrictions when registering and at least seven (7) days prior to the event so we can notify the event catering team. 

      Photography Policy - The DHAA reserve the right to take photographs and videos for publicity, illustration, advertising, web content and reports on events and symposia. These images will not be shared directly with any other business without prior consent. If you would prefer your image NOT be used, then please notify us in advance, in writing, of the event that you are attending to [email protected]

      Event Cancellation Policy

      If you are cancelling your registration to attend an event please contact us at [email protected]

      If notification is received:

      More than 5 working days before the event:

      - A partial refund less a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration fee will be given.

      Less than 5 working days before the event:

      - Event registration fees will not be refunded 5 working days from the event as catering will have been finalised and therefore incurred non-refundable costs to the DHAA.

      Alternatively, the event registration may be transferred to another person of the same DHAA membership status up to 24 hours prior to the event - please contact [email protected] to arrange a transfer.

      Non Attendance
      If a registered attendee fails to attend an event for which they have registered, the event registration fees will not be refunded.

      COVID-safe and booking with confidence
      We know that the world has changed and there is always going to be uncertainty around events in the age of a pandemic, so here is our approach to making this work:

      - The event will be fully COVID-safe and compliant above and beyond any basic government health requirements to do what we reasonably can to protect your health and safety and that of all attendees. That will include appropriate social distancing and other measures.
